Structure of Awareness: Symboloic Language Human Reflection (SAGE Library of Social Research)

Lefebvre, Vladimir A.

This book is an example of a nonconformist philosophical investigation published in the Soviet Union. One must assume that such instances are rare. For at least forty years, Soviet philosophical discussions appearing in print have reiterated an officially sanctioned doctrine, called dialectical materialism, which is declared to underlie the officially sanctioned political doctrine called Marxism-Leninism. The impossibility of separating philosophy from politics is an axiom in the latter doctrine, and it appears to the guardians of orthodoxy that the slightest deviation from the tenets of dialectical materialism serves to subvert the political doctrine and so to ''blunt the weapon of class struggle."
