Systems, Organizations, Analysis, Management: A Book of Readings

CLELAND, David I. & William R. King

One of the great utilities envisioned for a modern systems-oriented readings book is as a complement to basic management texts which do not emphasize systems ideas. we recognize that the treatment of some aspects of management thought and theory in systems-oriented texts such as ours is not as comprehensive as it is elsewhere. ln seeking to demonstrate the applicability of modern systems concepts to both the planning and execution functions of management, we necessarily tended to deemphasize many management principles which are not of central importance to this thesis. In doing so, we produced a book which will be too narrow for the tastes of some. We envision that this book will play a role in the more advanced study of those who are already well versed in basic management ideas and practice.
